A surreal, sad and morbidly beautiful view of 50,000 starfish that washed up on Lissadell beach in Ireland. Why? Marine biologists don’t know. When whales and dolphins do it, I suspect there are often man-made forces at work, but tens of thousands of starfish, all dead at the same time? And it was only adult starfish, no other creatures.
On a side note, it does make me wonder what the Atlantic sea bed there looks like when they are all alive and walking around, hunting crustaceans. A starfish army.
